A clean pour is the name given to the technique of putting different colors of paint directly onto the canvas without using any kind of cup.

I always cover the canvas with one color first, that way no matter what happens with the rest of the paint the canvas will be covered.

A swipe is the name given to the technique of dragging something across paint already on the canvas.
It causes the paint to pile up in thin layers that appear when cells form.

I'll often cover the canvas with the filled zone technique and then choose contrasting colors to swipe on top.
